Is there something you haven’t let go of? Is something weighing you down? Are you holding on to something that doesn’t serve you?
This post explores the power of letting go through mindfulness. Read on to discover how a simple story can inspire you to release what no longer serves you.
Here’s a Story About Holding On
Two Buddhist monks travel to their monastery after a heavy rain. They reach a raging river, and in front of them is a woman who is distressed because she cannot cross the river by herself. The older monk picks her up and carries her safely to the other side.
The two monks continue on their way in silence. Later, the younger monk, who has been very upset by the older monk’s action, finally bursts out:
“How could you? We’re not allowed to touch a woman!”
The older monk replies:
“I put her down hours ago. Why are you still carrying her with you?”
The Lesson: Why We Hold On
We remain shackled to the past when we are attached to something that no longer serves us. In meditation, there’s a saying:
“What you resist persists.”
Establishing a meditation practice and living mindfully can help you free yourself from these burdens. It can reduce stress, anxiety, and even the feeling of being stuck.
How Mindfulness Can Help You Let Go
Meditation and mindfulness allow us to live in the present moment, which leads to:
- Greater happiness
- A more fulfilled and authentic life
- Reduced stress and anxiety
You don’t need anything fancy to start. Simply sit down, close your eyes, and become still. The power of mindfulness is in its simplicity and accessibility.
Free yourself from the past. Lighten your load and learn to let go. Mindfulness can guide you to rediscover joy, peace, and authenticity.
I’d love to help you on your journey. Let’s work together!
